Beauty Leaves Wounds Behind explores notions of power, states of repair and dis-repair and the way histories are altered and repeated through the application of textile processes and methods.
Here a uniform is stripped down to fragments, deconstructed and reconstructed using repetitive actions, over and over until it is transformed into something unrecognisable and its origins camouflaged. Moments are recorded with each stitch, linking pieces briefly before they are subsumed into a fragile chaotic whole.
The slippery nature of facts and historical truths is especially apparent in our digital age and easily and often exploited by people in positions of power. Lost in networks of information and misinformation the work reflects upon the price we pay when future visions are clouded.
